Feeling Unqualified? God Can Still Use You
I want to talk about something I hear all the time from Christian creatives. Honestly, it’s something I’ve struggled with too. That feeling of being unqualified. Maybe God has been stirring something in your heart. Maybe you feel like you’re supposed to use your creativity for something bigger. Maybe you feel called to encourage others, lead a creative group, or start a creative ministry. But then that little voice pops up in your head.
"I'm not good enough."
"I don't know enough."
"Someone else could do this better."
Sound familiar? Let me tell you something that changed everything for me. God is not looking for perfection. He is looking for obedience.
You Don’t Have to Be the Best Artist
I host paint parties and creative gatherings, and let me tell you something funny. I am not a professional artist. Never have been.
Painting has just always been something that helped me heal. It’s helped me through hard seasons, grief, stress, and loss. It’s been a place where I could sit with Jesus, listen to worship music, and just breathe for a minute.
And now I get to help other women experience that same thing.
At my paint and praise parties, I always tell people, “It’s not about how it looks. It’s about how it makes you feel.” Creativity is not about being perfect. Creativity is about expression, connection, and sometimes even healing.
God Doesn’t Call the Perfect
When we look at the Bible, the people God used were not the most impressive people.
Moses didn’t feel qualified. David was just a shepherd boy when he faced a giant. The disciples were ordinary fishermen before Jesus called them.
But God called them anyway.
And the same thing is true for you.
Sometimes we sit around waiting until we feel ready. We think we need more training, more knowledge, or more experience before we start. But here’s the truth: we may never feel ready.
God doesn’t ask us to move when we feel ready. He asks us to move in faith.
Your Story Is What Qualifies You
For years, I tried so many different things. I tried photography, makeup, business ideas, and all kinds of entrepreneurial adventures. At the time, it felt like I was just bouncing around and trying too many things. Nothing ever seemed to work out successfully. It was tough.
But looking back now, I see something completely different.
God was preparing me.
Every season taught me something. Every struggle shaped me. Even the hard seasons like our miscarriages and grief pushed me closer to the calling I’m walking in today.
God uses our stories. He uses our pain, our healing, and even our creativity. Most of the time, the things we think disqualify us are the very things God will use the most.
Stop Waiting to Feel Qualified
If God has placed something on your heart, I want to encourage you today. Stop waiting until you feel ready. Stop comparing yourself to someone else. Stop thinking you have to know everything before you begin.
You don’t.
All God is asking is this: Are you willing to say yes?
Because when you say yes, He shows up. He guides the steps. He opens doors. He does the work we could never do on our own.
A Place for Christian Creatives
