Feeling Creatively Stuck? A Message for Christian Creatives
Have you ever felt creatively stuck?
Like you know God gave you creative gifts, but you’re not sure what you’re supposed to do with them?
If you’re a Christian creative, you’re not alone. A lot of us go through seasons where we feel confused, overwhelmed, or unsure about our creative calling. Sometimes life gets busy. Sometimes fear creeps in. And sometimes we just don’t know what the next step is.
Today I just want to encourage you. Grab your coffee, grab something creative, and let’s talk about it.
Creativity Was My Safe Place
I first fell in love with painting when I was in high school. Art class was my favorite place to be. I would sit there with my headphones on, listening to music and painting. It was the one place where I didn’t feel pressure.
I didn’t have to be perfect. I didn’t have to prove anything. I could just create.
Painting gave me peace. It helped me slow down and breathe. But like a lot of people, life got busy. Jobs, responsibilities, and everyday stress started to take over. Before I knew it, I had stopped creating the way I used to, and honestly, I lost that part of myself for a while.
When Life Gets Hard
Life has a way of bringing hard moments. I lost one of my best friends in a car accident when I was 21. That was the first time I really experienced deep grief.
Years later, my husband and I also went through miscarriages. That season of my life was one of the hardest things I’ve ever walked through. I felt broken. I felt lost. And I definitely felt stuck.
One night I sat in my car at the end of my driveway with worship music playing. I cried and prayed and told God I couldn’t carry the pain anymore. In that moment, something shifted. I felt peace again. Not because everything was suddenly fixed, but because God met me right there in the middle of it.
Painting Helped Me Heal
As I started healing, I picked up a paintbrush again. Painting became a place where I could sit with God. It became a place of creative worship and reflection.
That’s when I started realizing something really important. Creativity is a gift from God.
And sometimes when we feel stuck creatively, it’s not because we’re failing. It might actually be because God is stirring something new inside of us.
Feeling Scared Is Normal
If you feel a pull to do something bigger with your creativity, that feeling can be scary. You might wonder if you’re good enough or if you even know where to start.
My friend, that fear is normal. Anything new feels uncomfortable.
But here’s the truth I’ve learned on my journey: you don’t have to have the whole plan before you start. Sometimes God just asks us to take the first step.
Do it scared. Take the step anyway.
Your Creativity Has Purpose
God didn’t give you creativity by accident. Your painting, crafting, writing, or creating can encourage someone else. It can bring healing. It can help people feel seen.
Sometimes creative ministry starts with something simple. It might look like painting with friends, encouraging someone through art, hosting a small creative gathering, or simply sharing your story.
Big things often start with small acts of obedience.
Don’t Stay Stuck
If you’re feeling stuck right now, I want you to remember this: being stuck doesn’t mean the road is over. It might just mean God is opening a new door.
Pause. Pray. Listen. Then take one small step forward. You might be surprised where that step leads.
