Lisa Harper and Christine Caine: A Night That Changed Everything

In December, I had an unforgettable experience meeting two incredible women I’ve admired in ministry for years—Lisa Harper and Christine Caine. They came to a local church in Roanoke, VA, about an hour from me, and I knew I couldn’t miss it. Not only did I attend the event, but I also got a ticket for the pre-program Q&A session. It was worth every mile, every minute, and every bit of excitement leading up to it!

The Question That Changed Everything

During the Q&A, I had the chance to ask Lisa and Christine something I’d been pondering for a while: “How can I do what you do?” I wanted to hear about their early days in ministry and how they got to where they are today.

Their responses were life-changing.

Lisa emphasized, “Get involved and don’t stop saying yes!” Christine added, “It’s not about skill; it’s about the anointing of God and what you do in the quiet.”

Christine also shared a thought that hit me deeply: “This is life and death. This may be the first and last time I see someone and have the chance to share the Gospel with them.” It was a powerful reminder of the urgency and intentionality required in sharing Jesus with others.

Painting for Purpose

As many of you know, this past year, I’ve been blending my love for art and ministry. I’ve painted personalized pieces for some of my biggest inspirations, including Brandon Lake and Cain. Naturally, I wanted to add Lisa Harper and Christine Caine to that list. So, I painted two beautiful winter church scenes just for them.

To my delight, not only did they graciously accept the paintings, but they also took a photo with me and offered words of encouragement. It was one of those surreal moments where I felt God whisper, “Keep going, Dana. You’re right where you’re supposed to be.”

Holy Spirit Moments

Meeting these two women wasn’t just inspiring; it was emotional. As they spoke, I could feel the Holy Spirit so strongly it brought me to the verge of tears. That overwhelming sense of my calling—something I’m still figuring out—felt so real. It’s humbling and exciting all at once.

Worship with Jon Reddick

But the night didn’t end there! Jon Reddick was also part of the evening, and let me tell you—he was absolutely incredible. He performed some of his own songs, and then we worshipped together to Christmas music. The entire church was filled with such joy as we sang about the birth of Jesus. Jon’s voice carried a sense of peace and passion that made worship feel even more personal. It was the perfect way to celebrate the season and prepare our hearts for the message ahead.

Sermon Takeaways

And then Lisa and Christine spoke, sharing the most amazing sermon that left us all inspired and deeply moved. Their words resonated on such a personal level, reminding me of God’s power and purpose for each of us. As they spoke, I couldn’t help but feel the Holy Spirit working in that moment.

Some of my favorite takeaways from their message were so powerful:

  • God has a habit of using ordinary people from “nowhere special” to do extraordinary things. He’s looking for the ONE—a nowhere person in a nowhere place.

  • Doubt dies unborn if never spoken. Speak life over your situation, not doubt.

  • If you can accomplish your calling without God, it’s not from Him—it’s just good management of your gifts. What God calls you to will always be bigger than you are, and you CAN'T do it without His help.

  • We need the Holy Spirit to overshadow us. It’s not about us—it’s about Him working through us.

  • Sometimes it costs us everything to say “yes.” We must allow God to interrupt our plans with His purpose. One of my favorite lines was: “The degree you’re willing to be interrupted is the degree God will use you.” Wow.

They also reminded us that this is a team effort. God needs everyone—both young and old—to step up and fulfill their purpose. We are here at a divine place and time with a God-given mission. It’s big, but God is bigger.

Will You Say Yes?

This experience reminded me of the importance of saying “yes” to God, even when it costs us everything. He’s calling each of us—right here, right now—to step into His purpose.

So, let me ask you: Will you say yes to following Jesus, even if it means letting Him interrupt your plans?

God is looking for the ONE. Maybe that one is you.

Meeting Lisa and Christine was such a humbling and powerful experience that I’ll treasure forever. I pray for more opportunities to talk with them and learn from them—they are two of my biggest inspirations in ministry. Their wisdom and encouragement reminded me that God has a purpose for each of us, and I’m so grateful for the ways He continues to lead me in my journey.
